NEW YORK LEGAL ETHICS REPORTER (NYLER) is the product of a collaboration between Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz PC and the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. Our publication proudly continues the tradition of the former New York Professional Responsibility Report (NYPRR) — published for more than a decade by our dear friend Lazar Emanuel, who passed away in 2012.

NYLER’s editorial board comprises some of the nation’s leading legal ethics scholars and practitioners. The board is led by co-Editors Ron Minkoff and Professor Susan Fortney. Ron is Chair of the Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility Group at Frankfurt Kurnit. Professor Fortney is a professor at Texas A & M University School of Law, and a Fellow at the Monroe H. Freedman Institute for the Study of Legal Ethics, Hofstra University.

The editorial board also includes Professor Emeritus Roy Simon from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. Professor Simon is the author of Simon’s New York Rules of Professional Responsibility Annotated, an annual compendium of New York professional responsibility law. To purchase, click here.

Frankfurt Kurnit attorneys Nicole Hyland and Richard Maltz, and Greenberg Traurig General Counsel Martin Kaminksy, round out the board. Each is a well-regarded leader in the field of legal ethics and professional responsibility.

NYLER publishes three to five articles for each issue focusing on current topics in the field of ethics and professionalism. The articles are written by the NYLER editorial board with contributions from other experts in the field. Our editors create a self-assessment test of 20 multiple-choice questions testing reader knowledge of the issue’s articles. The New York State Continuing Legal Education Board has accredited NYLER as a “nontransitional” course for experienced attorneys only. For each self-assessment test for which experienced lawyers earn an 80% or higher score, NYLER will issue 0.5 CLE credits in Ethics and Professionalism. Experienced attorneys may earn a maximum of 6 CLE credit hours in Ethics and Professionalism per year from NYLER in this manner. Please note that there is a $25 processing fee for each CLE test submission, and a lawyer may take a test only once. (Financial aid is available for qualifying attorneys; please see our financial aid policy on the purchase page.)
